CampusReform.org has a new article up in their resources section entitled “How a College Student Can Safely Create Pain For A Professor Who is Misusing His Bully Pulpit” by economics pundit Gary North. The article purports to teach students how to “digitally kneecap” professors who they disagree with by attacking them online.
North’s article is based on the same premise as Horowitz’s “academic bill of restrictions,” that left-wing faculty are replacing open classroom discussion with forced indoctrination of their political ideology. If it were the case that faculty were shouting down students for disagreeing with them North would have reason for concern. However, as the Center and our partners in the Free Exchange on Campus Coalition have shown time and time again, there is simply no evidence that this is happening.
Instead, the article is a new spin on the same idea that state after state has rejected—that we should have restrictions on campus debate and restrictions rather than a free exchange of ideas.
